IEBC launches staff training in Naivasha to boost voter registration

The ongoing training marks a critical step towards building public confidence and laying the foundation for a smooth, transparent, and inclusive voter registration exercise.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has rolled out a staff training programme in Naivasha to prepare for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The training, spearheaded by IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon, is aimed at equipping staff with the skills and knowledge needed to carry out voter registration in line with the Commission’s constitutional mandate under Article 88(4) of the 2010 Constitution.

Ethekon reminded staff of their role as the frontline representatives of the Commission, noting that their conduct directly influences public perception.
“You are the face of the Commission. How you serve, communicate and carry yourselves defines what Kenyans think of the IEBC,” he said.
The Commission described the exercise as essential in ensuring that every eligible citizen, especially newly registered youth, has an opportunity to take part in shaping the country’s democratic future.
It added that the process is also open to citizens who have not yet registered or those seeking to update or transfer their voter details.
In early September, Ethekon outlined the preparatory steps undertaken to guarantee the credibility and inclusivity of the CVR.
These include mapping of registration centres to confirm accessibility, stakeholder forums at the constituency level to enhance awareness, and the collection of geospatial data for effective planning.
Other measures involve configuring and testing of Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits, dispatching registration materials on time, and conducting a Data Protection Impact Assessment to ensure compliance with the law.
Ethekon further stated that registration services are available at all IEBC constituency offices except in areas with ongoing by-elections.
“Eligible Kenyans may register at any IEBC Constituency Office, except in areas currently with by-elections. Services available include new voter registration, transfer of voter registration to a new location, correction or update of voter details, and inspection of voter registration status,” he said.
The Commission emphasised that the ongoing training marks a critical step towards building public confidence and laying the foundation for a smooth, transparent, and inclusive voter registration exercise.
